My good friend John Swift is a very talented musician and he is also an astrophysicist! Did I spell that right?! haha. He has put out a coloring contest and this is my submission! His girl, Gloria, designed the poster! I am quite found of her design because, yes, there are birds! Anything with birds is a go! I hope to win the contest, but if not, it was worth all the fun!

The logo was inspired by Andy Warhol's Velvet Underground design.

Toms Shoes Painting Extravaganza

Downtown Ventura was a happening place at Wetsand Surfshop for the 4th Annual Art, Music and TOMS Shoes Event. Here is how it works:

1. Come to Wetsand Surfshop
2. Purchase a pair of Toms Shoes.
3. Get your Toms custom styled.
4. Hang with your friends and meet new friends.
5. Listen to music!

The DJ was jammin. It was like listening to my own personal playlist that I listen to at home! The people were all so psyched on their newly painted shoes. The artists were superb. And there was also a cute golden retriever dog hanging out in the store, which makes me really happy. Yippee for a successful event.

Well, I can't believe it! I actually won! Thanks to all the love and support of my friends! Yippee! I am so honored to be featured on the front page of Ando and Friends website! Thanks for loving the art guys and for always inspiring me.
I have to give a special shout out to my dear friend Courtney for helping me collect seashells that I didn't even know existed in Ventura, along with helping me collect sea wood and rocks n stuff! Ando and Friends Coloring Contest 2010!!

Here is my entry for the Ando & Friends Coloring Contest this year! I had a lot of fun working on it. It is completely recycled!

Steps I took in making a recycled fun piece:

Step 1. Go down to your secret spot on the beach and gather some sweet materials including: sea rocks, sea glass, driftwood mini pieces, shells galore!

Step 2. Go into your closet and dig out the hemp!

Step 3. Sort your findings in color groups...pretty time consuming. ; o

Step 4: Get the Elmer's glue out and get busy gluing away! Stay in the lines!

Step 5: Rejoice because you have spent hours creating a fun new piece of recycled art!!!

Step 6: Write a poem about the piece...here is my poem, entitled "Sandy Hair Sliding"

-Sea glass, sea foam, sea wood, hemp.
-Sea rock, sea shells, sea green, fun!

-Toob city ridin' the Alaya,
-Hemp trail flew,
-Driftwood barrel,
-Take me through.

-Stylin' Ando threads of seaglass,
-Green, white, & brown,
-Sandy Hair Slidin'
-For the love of ocean I've found.

Step 7: Kiss your piece goodbye, she is off to the art contest! Sianara!

Faria Beach Tee

I was recently asked by a good friend to design a tee for my favorite surf and burrito spot, Faria Beach! Faria Beach Cafe, the new burrito stand right on the beach, provides snacks for hungry beach goers! I can't count how many times I have been so hungry, but the the waves were so good, that I couldn't possibly leave! Now Faria Beach has its own cafe! Yippee! I was more than happy to create an illustration of Faria Beach, that is forever engraved into my mind. It is a really special place and I can't wait to sport the sweet design proudly. A Story of Three Bottles

There once was a bottle who lived in a shoe.

Just kidding...the bottle never lived in a shoe, that is just ridiculous.

The bottle did have a secret to tell...and it was...ummm.....

Stop being silly and Recycle me!

Then there was another bottle hangin' out on the side of the road.

This bottle had dim past, filled with malt liquor, and was ready for a bright future.

This lil' 40 ouncer was psyched on his new paint job!

Last, and certainly not least, was the third bottle, full of olive oil, chillin' on a kitchen counter.

This bottle was ready for a change of scenery, bored with staring at the salt and pepper shakers.

And so... three birdy bottles were born!

Dah, dunna, nah! Birdy Power!

Noodles Fun House

A fun project inspired by a little friend named Noodles who resides in St. Augustine, Florida.

It was supposed to be a bird house, but Noodles can't fly...so I changed it a bit.

Easy access for squigglers, top to bottom.

Noodles is a huge fan of all kinds of music and she is quite the whistler.

Noodles wanted a huge self portrait painted in honor of her wigglyness.

Hey friends! I recently took part in a fun art show in Los Angeles this past week called the Pancakes and Booze Art Show. It was a fun arty time. A bunch of my friends came out to support and it was a really special night. There was live painting and "all you can eat" pancakes. Above is a pic of some peeps checkin' out my work. Heyo! The Brendan Borek Art Show this year was awesome as usual. There was a slew of fun art. Each year is better than the next. If you haven't heard about The Brendan Borek High Tides Memorial Fund... Check the website!

Hello friends! I was reminded by a friend the other day that my blog was lookin a little stark, and I thought...Wow, it sure is! Then I realized that I haven't been doing much art lately, due to a rather relentless injury. BUT...here are few paintings that I managed to create this summer and totally forgot to tell you about. This first one is called "Bird Palace Yo!" Haha, funny name.

Hello friends! I recently submitted a design to Threadless.com. Check it out!

The shirt is called Bird Hotel. I created this drawing a while ago and thought it would make a fun t shirt. Have you ever wondered about where all the little birdies sleep at night?! Well, I have seen in person that it is very difficult for them to find a place to stay! All of the upscale bird condos are always full! Even the lower income bird motels are filled to the very last leafy branch! Some birdies are forced to sleep in the bushes! OH MY!

The Birdie Wedding Project

Hello all! Welcome to my first ever blog! It is about a wedding and some birdies. I was recently married in March...Yay! It was an amazing day that could not have been possible without all of the support of our friends and family. I ended up creating all of the wedding paraphernalia at home from random scraps and stuffs. It was tedious at times, but it was all worth it. I just wanted to see the smiles on my loved ones faces. I chose to create everything around one theme...Love Birds!!! I guess I could also call the theme "That is the cutest thing I have ever seen!"

That is the reply that I received the most for this one...our cake topper.

It is pretty cute. I made these two love birds out of scrap fabric and lace. The legs are made of wires and the eyeballs are old "Bedazzler" pieces. I have finally found a use for those previously useless things. Below is our guest book.

This book is quite special. A very special friend handed this wooden portfolio (handcrafted by her grandmother) to me a while ago and said "I know you can use this for something." I figured I would since wooden found objects are my favorite things to paint on. So, I filled the book with paper and slapped a pair o' birds on the cover. The birds are made of scrap fabric and the legs and heart are painted on with acrylic paint.

This is a look inside the book. "Guests, please sign" is stamped on the opening page with a stamp of two birdies on the bottom of each page in the book. Below is a bouquet that I handcrafted for each of my six bridesmaids, completely crafted out of scrap fabric.

Below is my husbands "Button-eer." I created one of these for each groomsman as well. They wore them on their shirt pockets.

Below is a pic of Susan. She kept interrupting the photo shoot. She wanted to make an appearance on Kasleberry Blogfest.

These jars below are the wedding favors. I tried to make as many as I could, hoping that at least each family attending the wedding would get one. They are recycled jars from our Trader Joe's shopping spree. Each jar has a one of a kind drawing inside of two birds in love. I was so happy to see that all of these jars were gone before the reception was over. What can I say...people love birds.

This jar below is my personal favorite. I wonder who got this one???
